Thanksgiving Morning in Rosemary Beach Belongs to the Runners. Here's How the Rest of the Day Works.

On Thursday, November 26, 2026, Highway 30A in Rosemary Beach is a racecourse until late morning. The 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races begin at East Water Street, and the road is closed to all traffic from there west to the turnaround at Bridge Lane, just east of The Big Chill. For a household hosting family that week, the holiday starts when the road reopens.

The race follows a fixed clock, and so does most of the day around it. Packet pickup, parking, where guests should come in, and when the first holiday table is set all follow from the closure window. Hosts who plan around that window will have an easier morning.

The clock the town runs on

The organizer posts a tight schedule over two days.

When What happens Where
Wed., Nov. 25, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Packet pickup, with no race-day pickup The Big Chill
Thu., Nov. 26, 7:00 a.m. 30A closes to all traffic East Water Street to Bridge Lane
7:30 a.m. 10K starts East Water Street start line
7:35 a.m. 1-mile fun run starts Rosemary Beach
9:30 a.m. 5K starts Course includes Watersound Parkway
After the races Awards and post-race party North Barrett Square
10:30 or 11:00 a.m. 30A reopens See note below

The reopening time is the one figure that doesn't match across the organizer's pages. The race's main page and event schedule list the closure as 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. The race FAQ gives 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. If guests are arriving from Panama City Beach or Destin that morning, plan on the later time. Ask them to arrive after it, or to be in town before 7 a.m.

The Wednesday pickup catches people out. Visiting relatives who signed up for the race need to get their packets at The Big Chill on Wednesday, because there is no pickup on race day. For a family coming in late Wednesday night, that is the first scheduling problem of the trip.

Where the closure actually lands

The closure covers more than the stretch of 30A through town. The 10K heads west on 30A to the Bridge Lane turnaround and comes back. The 5K adds a second closure on Watersound Parkway, from its intersection with 30A north to the Camp Creek Inn entrance. The 5K doesn't start until 9:30, so the Parkway is affected late in the window. That is also when many households start their holiday errands.

The organizer calls the course flat and scenic, with views of South Walton's architecture and dune lakes, and it puts both the start and the finish in Rosemary Beach. So the town center is busiest at both ends of the morning. Runners gather at East Water Street before 7:30. Later, the awards and post-race party fill North Barrett Square.

The organizer doesn't name official viewing areas. Its FAQ encourages runners to bring family along as cheerleaders. If you're hosting, the simplest option for a house full of guests is to walk to the course from home.

Getting in on foot

Parking near the start is limited, and the race tells people to come in on foot from the north. Its FAQ says that anyone parking on the north side of Highway 98 at 30Avenue should use the underground walking path into Rosemary Beach. Guests who don't know the area may not realize the underpass exists.

How the race explained its parking plan to the county is useful background. In its permit application on the Walton County Board of County Commissioners agenda for June 23, 2025, the organizer said participants would park in public lots in Rosemary Beach and 30Avenue, with letters from both communities attached. It wrote that most participants stay within walking distance and that parking had not been a problem in the previous nine years. That application covered the 2025 race. It also promised electronic billboards and yard signs along the route a week before race day. If 2026 follows the same plan, the yard signs are the cue to send the schedule to your guests.

Why the town gives up its main road

The race is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and its stated purpose is raising money for local charities. The series says it has raised more than $1 million for its charity partners since it began. The 2026 partners are Children in Crisis, Bailey Brigade, Habitat for Humanity of Walton County, and Children's Volunteer Health Network.

The race carries more weight than usual this year. The 30A 10K is the RRCA Florida State Championship 10K for 2026, with signature awards for the overall male and female finishers, the 40+, 50+ and 60+ divisions, and adaptive champions. Age-group awards go three places deep in brackets from under 10 to 80 and older. A grandparent and a grandchild can both go home with hardware.

Registered runners get a race shirt, a finisher medal, and a post-race breakfast with a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar for those 21 and older. For many families, that breakfast in Barrett Square is the first meal of the holiday.

The table that opens as the closure window ends

Rosemary Beach's best-documented Thanksgiving meal for 2026 lines up with the race schedule. Havana Beach Bar & Grill at The Pearl Hotel is hosting a Thanksgiving Day Brunch Buffet from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 26, across its Main Dining Room, Hemingway Room and Ballroom. The menu lists traditional Thanksgiving dishes, coastal cuisine, a prime rib carving station and desserts. Pricing is $85++ for adults and $45++ for children 12 and under.

The buffet opens at 11 a.m., the same hour the FAQ gives for 30A to reopen. That makes it a workable choice for a group split between runners and people who stayed in. The terms are strict. Reservations require a credit card. Cancelling within 72 hours of the event costs $50. A 22% gratuity is added to every dining check. The 72-hour window falls on Monday of Thanksgiving week, which is often when visiting families finalize their headcount.

For households cooking at home, takeout in town ran on early deadlines last year. 30A's 2025 Thanksgiving guide listed a heat-and-serve meal for six from Gallion's in Rosemary Beach, with smoked turkey, sides and pie, for pickup on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 2 to 4 p.m. Edward's Fine Food & Wine took orders until 3 p.m. the Sunday before, with Wednesday pickup from 3 to 5 p.m. Those dates and details are from 2025, and 2026 plans may differ. Last year's pattern still suggests that holiday meal orders in town close days before the holiday, and that Wednesday afternoon is pickup time.

The two weeks on either side

The holiday events on either side of Thanksgiving fill up just as early. Rosemary Beach Uncorked marks its 15th year on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m., with food and wine from the town's restaurants and live music. As of early October, the event site lists it as sold out and offers a wait list for released tickets.

After the holiday:

  • Tree lighting. The 2025 ceremony was held November 28 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in South Barrett Square, with carolers, Santa and carriage rides. The 2026 date and time are still to be confirmed. Last year it fell on the day after Thanksgiving.
  • Sunday farmers market. The market runs year-round on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It doesn't need a ticket and is open on the Sunday of the holiday weekend.
  • Holiday Tour of Homes. The Rosemary Beach Foundation hosts a self-guided tour of decorated homes on Saturday, December 5. Proceeds benefit Caring & Sharing of South Walton and Alaqua Animal Refuge.

Uncorked is ticketed and sold out. The race requires a Wednesday pickup and closes 30A. The buffet needs a reservation 72 hours ahead. Only the market and the town's free gatherings can be decided that morning. If you're hosting this year, settle the rest by mid-November.

If you're opening a second home for Thanksgiving this year, Stroop Group can help get it ready before 30A closes on Thursday morning, from home watch checks to arrival prep. We're also glad to talk through what the season looks like for your property.
